Student Teaching
Student teaching is another benefit of spending a semester in Philadelphia.
Andrea Thomas (Hanover College, Fall 2010) “Student teaching in Philadelphia has been an unbelievable learning opportunity. I immersed myself in experiences so foreign to my day to day life in Hanover, Indiana, that everyday presented a new moment from which to learn. I gained confidence in teaching, appreciation for diverse environments and people, skills in lesson plan creation, and connections to teaching resources and other professionals. I was challenged by my students, my professor, and my own critical reflection. I would not trade my semester in Philadelphia for anything in the world.”
TPC offers exceptional opportunities for students seeking to complete their certification requirements by student teaching or volunteering in an urban classroom. Philadelphia’s schools provide rich and diverse options to aspiring teachers. Our 16-week program guarantees a minimum of 15 consecutive weeks of student teaching. Student teachers are placed in classrooms satisfying elementary (K-6) and secondary (5-12) education certification. Possible teaching subjects may include math, languages, social studies, science, physical education, music, and visual arts.
Students interested in education but who are not pursuing certification will also find rewarding experiences in the classroom, theaters, museums, as well as other locations. For more information about student teaching in Philadelphia please click here.
